Academic African American Literature Penguin Series
African American Men in College This book offers help for administrators and faculty concerned with recruitment, retention, and graduation of African American men. The book has two main purposes: First, to fill a gap in the literature by addressing the needs of a historically underserved population that continues to face challenges to success in college. Its second purpose is to present specific examples of programs and activities that have helped African American men succeed, and to show how other schools might duplicate their success on their own campuses. The book addresses issues of academic climate, leadership, mentoring, spirituality, athletics, and fraternities, among other topics. Cuyjet edited a volume in the "New Directions for Student Services series, "Helping African-American Men Succeed in College (0-7879-9883-4).
