The Support Group Sourcebook: What They Are, How You Can Find One, and How They Can Help You by Linda L. Klein, Support groups are communities made up of kindred souls-people who share a common, defining life experience. Whether that experience is cancer, the death of a loved one, chemical abuse, or domestic violence, support groups can provide the meaningful connection we can’ t find anywhere else. There are thousands of groups to join for support. But how do we choose the right one? What makes one group fail and another succeed? And if we want to start our own group, where do we begin and how do we keep it going? Cancer group facilitator Linda Klein has provided a one-stop resource for all your questions about support groups. You’ ll find invaluable tips on how to: Choose a group and participate effectively Start your own group and develop its potential Take part in online support groups-safely In this book, you’ ll read participants’ personal accounts of their group experiences. Potential group members will find tips on how to benefit fully from a support group, includin what to expect-and not expect-from a group situation. Group leaders will find handy discussion guides as well as sample press releases and public service announcements for reaching prospective members. For those who want to join a group but don’ t know where to begin, and for those who want to form a group but don’ t know how, The Support Group Sourcebook will provide you with that vital first step toward helping yourself-and others.
Reflection Groups and Coxeter Group by James E. Humphreys, In this graduate textbook Professor Humphreys presents a concrete and up-to-date introduction to the theory of Coxeter groups. He assumes that the reader has a good knowledge of algebra, but otherwise the book is self contained. The first part is devoted to establishing concrete examples; the author begins by developing the most important facts about finite reflection groups and related geometry, and showing that such groups have a Coxeter representation. In the next chapter these groups are classified by Coxeter diagrams, and actual realizations of these groups are discussed. Chapter 3 discusses the polynomial invariants of finite reflection groups, and the first part ends with a description of the affine Weyl groups and the way they arise in Lie theory. The second part (which is logically independent of, but motivated by, the first) starts by developing the properties of the Coxeter groups. Chapter 6 shows how earlier examples and others fit into the general classification of Coxeter diagrams. Chapter 7 is based on the very important work of Kazhdan and Lusztig and the last chapter presents a number of miscellaneous topics of a combinatorial nature.
Group polarization - Group polarization effects have been demonstrated to exaggerate the inclinations of group members after a discussion. A military term for group polarization is "incestuous amplification". Helvidius Group - The Helvidius Group was established in 1989 by Peter Tomassi, CC '91, to provide an undergraduate forum for the discussion of diverse issues concerning law and public policy. The Journal of Politics & Society is the realization of that mission. Web conferencing - Web conferencing is used to hold group meetings or live presentations over the Internet. In the early years of the Internet, the terms "web conferencing" and "computer conferencing" were often used to refer to group discussions conducted within a message board (via posted text messages), but the term has evolved to refer specifically to "live" or "synchronous" meetings, while the posted message variety of discussion is called a "forum", "message board", or "bulletin board". Talking circle - A talking circle is a method used by a group to discuss a topic in an egalitarian and non-confrontational manner. The group members sit in a circle and make comments on the topic of the discussion following a small number of rules:
